This gargoyle is on a cathedral in Mechelen, Antwerp, Belgium.
Gargoyles were originally designed as a tool in the shape of a grotesque or chimera, with a spout to direct water away from the roof and side of a building. Today it is common for grotesques and chimeras that are used only for ornamentation to also be described as gargoyles.
According to legend, gargoyles ward off evil spirits.

Photography by Eddy Van Leuven of Flanders, Belgium. Van Leuven has been taking photos since childhood, a hobby shared with his father, who gave him his first camera.
I am proud to display a bit of his work. I especially like his nature and architectural photos. And his people. Basically I think he's a genius.
See more of Van Leuven's work.
