Refrigerator magnet pictures English Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603), queen of England and Ireland. The portrait was don by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger (c1561-1636) around 1592. Gheeraert was popular with Elizabeth's successor, James I, doing portraits for queen consort Anne of Denmark. Daughter of King Henry VIII and his 2nd wife Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth was the 5th and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty. She reigned for 45 years beginning in 1558, a period known as the Golden Age. The relatively peaceful Elizabethan era is known for a blossoming of the arts, political stability, improved prosperity and the Protestant Reformation. Elizabeth has been beloved for over 400 years. She remains today as a role model, an enigma, a ruler, a heroine, a woman. If she lived today, a lot of us would like the opportunity to say, "You go, girl."
