Chinchillas are mammals who hail from the Andes mountain area of South America. They're about the size of a rabbit and have wonderfully soft fur. Evil people breed them to make luxury coats.
Chinchillas can jump up to 5 feet. In the wild they eat plants, fruits and bugs; in captivity they eat hay, pellets and raisins. Years ago I was acquainted with a chinchilla named Albert who was given one raisin every other day.
Some basics about Chinchilla pets.
Chinchillas typically live 15 years but 18-22 years isn't uncommon. Their hearing range is close to that of humans, 20 Hz to 30 kHz.
