This refrigerator magnet features a witch riding her broom past the moon on the side of cookie jar that was made by Abingdon Pottery. A cat with its back arched graces the handle.
Abingdon was founded in 1908 to make bathroom fixtures and was quite successful at it until the Depression set in. With the market for bath furnishings at a trickle, Abingdon took stock of its assets and went to work making pottery. It is estimated that from 1934-50, the company turned out over six million lamps, planters, vases, cookie jars, etc. At the end of WWII, as home construction skyrocketed, the company was sold and went back to making bath furnishings.
Abingdon's most prolific cookie jar years were 1942-1950. This hand decorated cookie jar was item #692. It is one of the most sought after and costly Abingdon cookie jars.
A refrigerator magnet can't supply the same enjoyment as a cookie jar, but maybe this will tide you over til you can find the real thing :)
