| This 9-gal wastebasket comes from an office in old factory. It was manufactured by NEMCO, the Northwestern Expanded Metal Company of Chicago and patented in 1923. NEMCO continued making this item well into the 1940s, offering it in several sizes. NEMCO was founded by Harris Ansel Wheeler (1850-1931) of Maine. Wheeler owned several manufacturing companies, was aid-de-camp for two Illinois governors and an avid Mason. One division of NEMCO that produced plaster and concrete reinforcement mesh was sold to US Gypsum in the 1930s. |
