Item

Vintage trouble light manufactured by McGill Manufacturing of Valparaiso, Indiana.  The McGill company, founded around 1930 in Chicago as the Crescent Company, has been making industrial utility lighting  for over 80 years.  This is from its 3000 Series and was promoted as being vapor proof.  This particular model was equipped with a metal shield as part of the cage.

The McGill name was adopted in 1910.  McGill diversified over the years, becoming an important innovator in bearings for the automotive industry.  In 1990 the company was acquired by Emerson Electric.  Today McGill Electrical operates as part of Emerson's Electrical Group out of  Rosemont, IL.

Lamp is shown here with a clear light bulb that is not included but if you like the look you can find such bulbs at the grocery or hardware store, isn't anything exotic.

Composition

Thick maroon colored plastic Bakelite-type handle, chromed steel cage and glass.  Manufacturer rated it for use with up to a 100-watt bulb.

Condition

This is new old store stock from a lighting distributor who went out of business.  The box shows light wear and soil but the lamp is new and works perfectly.

Age

1960s-70s

Size

16" high x 5" diameter x 8 lbs

ADDITIONAL MAGNET FAQ

Q. Can you personalize or make custom magnets?
A. Happy to.
Simple text changes to stock magnets are free.  Just add instructions to your payment or email me after payment.  Sorry, I do not sell magnets of copyrighted images unless you are the copyright holder.

Q.  What about durability?

A.  To clean, wipe with a damp cloth. Do not soak, use abrasives or apply cleaning products containing bleach or solvents.  I've run them through the dishwasher without disaster, but they'll last longer if you keep them out of puddles and away from puppy teeth.  And they're most definitely not suited for exterior display.

Q.  What is your magnet return policy?

A. Return it within 14 days of receipt for a full refund, including return shipping, up to the amount I spent getting it to you.

(In other words, if you decide to fly it here on your jet, I'm not buying the fuel :)

Copyrights and images
I do not knowingly sell copyrighted materials.  Please contact me if you see an image in my offerings that is contrary to this policy.

Q. Are magnets three dimensional or die cut shapes?
Please be advised that my magnets are NOT three dimensional or die cut.  They do not light up, make noise or tell time. They are rectangular pictures printed on flat, flexible 30ml magnetic vinyl with a  protective satin-finish top coating and hand finished edges. The magnets are roughly twice the thickness & strength of magnetic material found at office supply stores.

In other languages that's: El imán es una imagen plana. L'aimant est une image plate. Der Magnet ist ein flaches Bild. Il magnete è un'immagine piatta. De magneet is een vlakke afbeelding.

Q. When do you ship?

A.  Since my magnets are made to order,  I allow myself 4 business days for production.  However, I strive to ship within 36-48 hours of payment and will always work with you if you have a special deadline. Just let me know if you are buying for a particular date and I'll move your order to the top of the heap.

Q.  Will the magnet stick to my....?

A.  I'd like to have you as a customer, but only if you know what you are buying.  The truth is that magnets do not stick to all metals.   For example, magnets do not stick to stainless steel or brass.   Click here to learn more about what kinds of metals are magnet friendly and what kinds are not.
