Item Ventilation fan blade manufactured by the Hartzell company of Piqua, Ohio. In aviation, the Hartzell name goes back to propellers in world wars I & II, and forward to the 1990s when it developed a propeller system for NASA. This blade was originally patented in 1935 by aviation pioneer Fred Charavay, who was Chief Engineer at Hartzell Fan. Charavay first tried aircraft propellers in industrial ventilators in the 1920s and refined them over the years. One advantage was that the Hartzell fans operated with less vibration, thus less noise. Today Hartzell is a premier player in the industrial ventilation industry.
