4-slot storage cabinet manufactured by the Guercio-Barthel Co. of Chicago, also known as Ger-Bar, located at 1018 S. Wabash. According to a brass tag on the front of the cabinet, Ger-Bar produced theatrical equipment. The only reference I could find online to the company was an ad for seating in a January 26, 1935 issue of Box Office magazine. Designed to hold movie film canisters.
A Joseph Guercio patented a movie projector & related components in 1942. I couldn't find a patent for this cabinet, however. Barthel may have been Oliver E. Barthel, an engineer-inventor who patented 3 dozen automotive and boat motor products. He did engineering work for Ford, Cadillac, etc. in early 1900s.
The doors are spring loaded. Opening a door engages an interior arc of metal that pulls the compartment contents forward.
